In 2001 I did the cyclist leg as part of a Challenged Athletes Association (CAF) charity team in my first ever Half Ironman. I was so inspired by all the amputees and otherwise Challenged Athletes competing that I decided to enter my first half Ironman. |

Damaged my ankle in early 2007 so couldn’t run or play football (the proper version) and was talked into learning to swim. Was utterly hopeless to begin with, literally unable to swim even 20m, but the challenge was there. Another swimmer mentioned triathlon to me and despite falling off my bike and needing help to get the chain back on whilst coming out of T1 in my first race, I was hooked. |
