BIKES FOR LOCAL SCHOOL GROUP WANTED
Nine years ago, our club undertook a bold initiative to organise a triathlon near Pemberton in the South West of our state. The club’s primary motive was to provide Western Australian triathletes with a unique, triathlon racing experience.
With the event now entrenched as a popular fixture on the WA triathlon calendar, our club has been seeking opportunities to increase our engagement with the local community. This includes promoting the area to all those who visit for our event and to improve the awareness of our sport to the local communities. A sport that is generally not accessible in their local area.
With this purpose in mind, we are hoping to assist the Manjimup Senior High School with their triathlon course for the year 9 girls.
“Each year they take part in the Interschool Triathlon but are generally not very competitive because the school only has some old mountain bikes for them to use” says Phil Milburn, who has been a regular KVT participant for many years.
If any of our members or participants in the KVT have a road bike that they no longer need and are willing to donate or sell at a reasonable price, please contact Phil Milburn. The bikes they are interested in are ones suitable for girls in year 9. However, this can be a wide range as the girls are all growing at different speeds.
Phil (and hopefully some of his school’s triathlon team) will be at Karri Valley next weekend.
If you have a suitable bike, please contact Phil at milburnphil@hotmail.com
